We spent the day yesterday (Saturday the 9th) making our last few site visits and seriously discussing our options for a venue. We went out to the swing in his backyard to relax for a bit and enjoy the beautiful spring-like weather, where I proceeded to bug him about how badly I wanted my ring for a while :) We joked about it, he laughed at me a lot, and he was being particularly affectionate, which was surprising given the topic of conversation (usually he gets ticked at me when I bring up the ring). That was my first clue, but I've learned to stop getting excited at the first sign of abnormal behavior lately. My mom is leaving for Disney World today and I'm the dogsitter, so I had to go over to her house to get the last-minute instructions for the dogs. Ben said he didn't feel too great and wanted to stay home and lay around while I went to my mom's. So I left, and he set his plan into motion.
I spent about a half an hour at my mom's, and then she decided that we should take all the Pampered Chef stuff that had come in (from our party last week) to Ben's house for his mom, aunt, sisters, etc. who ordered, and suggested that she come with me to pick up a suitcase from my house - she had run out while packing. So she followed me in her car, and I proceeded past Ben's road to go to my house first and grab the suitcase. She pulled over, called me, and said "You need to come back. We need to go to Ben's first." Another clue that I was being stalled. So I didn't ask questions. After unloading at Ben's (and noticing that he wasn't there!), my mom decided that we should go get ice cream. To which I responded "Mom, I'm on South Beach. I can't have ice cream!" So we went to Rita's, where they usually have a sugar-free flavor or two. She got a phone call from what she claimed was her mother-in-law, who was on her way over for their trip to Disney. Made sense, but after having sat around lazily eating our italian ice for about 10 minutes, it was suddenly time to go after that phone call. Hmm. As we pulled up to my Dad's, supposedly to pick up a suitcase, I noticed something pink on the door. My suspicions were confirmed :) So here's how it went from my perspective...
On the door were two pink post-its. One said "Follow the notes in numerical order" and the other said "Kitchen first". I opened the door to find a trail of red rose petals all over my house :) The first note in the kitched read "1. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me". The trail led me to the dining room, to find "2. You truly are a message from God". Next, up the stairs to the end of the hallway (where I expected to find him hiding in my room, but I was wrong) "3. I love you more than life itself" and "After reading this note head back downstairs and outside on the deck". On the slider to the deck was "4. I will love you forever and always!" and "Keep following the petals". I thought I'd find him on the deck, but I was wrong again. I found "5. You're my angel" and a trail down the stairs. There he sat, in what he knows is my favorite outfit, on the wooden swing beneath my deck, ring box in-hand :) Of course, I immediately started welling up and had to hug and kiss him a few times before I could sit down. He sat me down, told me there was no one else he could imagine loving for the rest of his life, and asked me to marry him. To which I replied "Absolutely!" And there was much crying, kissing, hugging, and general rejoicing :)
I'm so glad that he came up with a sweet, thoughtful plan and made it a special moment for us that we'll always remember. It was an incredible moment, actually being proposed to - it was about so much more than the ring. It felt so much more real than I ever could have imagined, and so profoundly important. Truly the most important moment of my life to date. There aren't many moments that truly change your life forever, but that was one of them. Not that we weren't getting married before that happened, but I really FELT it when that happened. It made this whole thing more real - it made me start putting myself in my visions of the wedding, rather than just picturing the scenery and the faceless figures standing up there. It's really happening, and I couldn't be more certain that he is the one and only man that it was ever supposed to be.
And now, the long-anticipated ring shots...

I could do some serious damage with that thing. It sits up very high on my finger! And remember, Mom Mom's diamond in the middle - how sweet is that? Couldn't be more perfect, if you ask me :) These pictures don't really do it justice, in terms of its "bling" factor - it's extremely sparkly - but you'll see it in person eventually, I'm sure!
